FAQ: FAQ

Believe it or not, pups are as individual as people! Some pups handle transitioning very well and other pups can be extra sensitive to their new surroundings. No matter how your puppy is handling the change of going from our home to yours, you can help them along by offering lots of snuggles and treats. Hand feeding cooked meats is amazing for bonding because your puppy will associate the smell of the meat with you, leading to a fast tracked friendship. This also guards against the dangers of hypoglycaemia The best way for you to help your pup is to take it easy and get to know each other for the first little while.

WHAT PREVENTATIVE HEALTHCARE WILL PUPPY COME HOME WITH?

We recommend and administer minimal core vaccines. Depending on the age of the puppy upon leaving, they will have had 1-3 DAPPV vaccines and 1-3 dewormings.

Do You recommend I vaccinate my puppy against rabies?

We strongly believe less is more. We do not recommend rabies vaccinations unless absolutely necessary for international travel.

Once a puppy has completed their standard initial vaccination schedule, we do not recommend yearly boosters.

We do not recommend external parasite preventative.

Instead we recommend researching the neurological consequences of external parasite control as well as the consequences of over vaccination.  Our dogs are tiny and their tiny bodies should be considered to be treated very different from a  large breed dog.

WHAT WILL MY PUPPY COME HOME WITH?

Each puppy comes home with health records, a health guarantee and care and training instructions.

Should I feed my dog wet food?

Wet food is terrible for teeth. We do not recommend wet food unless the dog is having appetite issues. Sometimes sensitive Micro and Teacup puppies need to be supplemented during the transition period. You will be given specific instructions based on your pups size and age.

Some breeders claim that their puppies go home fully trained. Will my puppy go home crate trained?

We use and recommend exercise pen method for training. This way whenever the pup cannot be supervised they will be completely safe and self sufficient. We work hard to ensure basic training is well established for their age when pups are ready to leave. No pup is fully trained before 6 months of age. They do not have the attention span before this age.

Do you recommend that I purchase pet insurance?

Our dogs are living beings, that being said, things can go wrong with them. Pet insurance is for the unexpected. Accidents do happen. Whether or not to purchase a pet insurance policy is a personal choice. Some people prefer to put money away each month for a "rainy day" veterinary fund, other people like the peace of mind of knowing that if they did run into something unexpected, they are covered.

What type of food do you feed?

We feed Royal Canin Small Puppy. Available for purchase at any major pet store.

I WANT TO FEED MY PUPPY ANOTHER FOOD. WHEN CAN I CHANGE THEIR FOOD?

Every puppy that leaves our home and with that, our family, their mother and their siblings to go to their new home will have an adjustment period. As exciting as new sights, smells and faces can be, for a young puppy this can also overwhelming. Stress can cause appetite changes. We DO NOT recommend changing your pups food for a minimum of one month after going home to avoid any potential disruption in appetite.
