TRAINABILITY

Long gone are the days of believing the myth that small dogs are less intelligent. The truth is, dogs benefit from stimulation just the same as people do. An intelligent dog is a well stimulated dog... is a well behaved dog. This is not breed or size specific. Any breed or size of dog will benefit from stimulation.

Different types of stimulation include:

Obedience training

Physical exercise

Working on a new trick

Playing interactive games

Running errands together

Going for a drive

Socializing with other dogs

Rotating new and old toys

Exploring new places

Housebreaking

We work hard prior to sending your puppy home to establish a potty training routine. Your puppy will go home with some training established, in addition to easy instructions on how to continue effortlessly.

We train our pups by utilizing their instincts. Dogs naturally seek separate areas for eating, sleeping and eliminating. Through giving them these separate areas in a confined space, such as the iris puppy playpen, we encourage what they already want. We do this so we can easily teach them what we expect while being able to supervise their learning.

Start off with the smallest area you can. Pups have a short attention span, accidents happen.  You want to give freedom slowly.

If you are giving too much room too soon, you will have more accidents. Scale back your pups area in this case.

Redirection is important therefor supervision is key! You have to catch pup in the act. You have a 2 second window of teaching opportunity to correct your pups behaviour. If pup pees on the rug, you must immediately redirect the pup to the pee pad.

Praise and reward are your most valuable assets. Dogs like to please their humans. Again- you have a 2 second window to relay to your pup that what they are doing is good.

Consistency is key! The more consistent you are in your redirections and praise, the faster pup learns.
